The Central Region is characterized by the presence of various territorial configurations.
COMMUNITY FUNDS / PORTUGAL 2020 (100 MUNICIPALITIES)
In administrative terms, the Central Region is composed of 100 municipalities. The municipalities are organized into eight Intermunicipal Communities (CIM), in accordance with Law No. 75/2013 of September 12, which constitute level III of the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS), approved by the European Commission (Regulation (EU) No. 868/2014 of the Commission, dated August 8, 2014): Aveiro Region, Coimbra Region, Leiria Region, Viseu Dão Lafões, Beiras and Serra da Estrela, Beira Baixa, Oeste, and Médio Tejo.

In terms of the area of intervention of CCDRC (except for the application of structural funds), the Central Region is composed of 77 municipalities.
